A Red Party

A Red Cake for a Red Party
We had done the rounds of traditional themes - Spiderman, Superhero, and Pirate Party. My 10 year old son wanted something different, so after much thought and very little ado, we had a "Red" party.
As you can imagine, everything was red! From the invites printed on red paper, to the table napkins, paper cups, party hats, tablecloth etc. We even had red paper bag as the party bags filled with red goodies. Inside, the goody bags were red pencils, red foil covered chocolates, red whistles, red party blowers, redskins and various other red sweets.
We asked all the guests to wear red. (It was hard to tell everyone apart at first!).
We even had a few spare red pieces of clothing for those who forgot to wear red.
We hung red balloons and red streamers around the garden. I used red food colouring in a lot of the food (the natural red colouring - Annatto). We had red jelly, red lemonade. Red hot dogs (easy) with red tomato sauce (is there any other colour?), red apples and strawberries.
We thought a red cake was a bit much so we made a plain cake "Happy Birthday" written in red.
Everyone had a great time. Like other theme parties we've had, it was interesting to see the kids use their brains and imagination to come up with suitable ideas.
