Disco Party

by Petra
(Adelaide)

My friend recently had a Disco Party for her daughter's 8th birthday. The kids had so much fun and my friend went to a lot of trouble organising for weeks before the party.

A couple of weeks before the party she sent out invitations on silver stars. These were made from cardboard with silver on one side and plain on the other - where she wrote the party details. Each one had a little silver loop at the top for hanging on the fridge (or wherever). I'm not sure whether she made these herself or bought them but they were very effective.

She hired a disco ball from a local party hire place and set it up in her garage. That really set the theme. She borrowed quite a few music cd's from the local library so there was plenty of varied music.

One of the games was limbo, which the girls loved (most of the guests went to gymnastics together). There were dancing games (the best disco dance), and of course musical statues.

Lots of the girls came with glitter painted on their faces (eyelids and cheeks).

The party bags also had face glitter, lipstick, little mirrors and little disco balls on keyrings. (Personally I thought it was good to have a party bag that didn't contain sweets for a change).

Silver seemed to be the main theme colour as there were baskets of food with silver coloured serviettes and cups. She managed to find some plastic dancing girls somewhere and put these on the birthday cake, which was iced pink (sorry, didn't get a photo).

I thought this was a great party (and I'm a lot older than 8). The guests didn't stop dancing all night (well until 7.30pm) and a lot of them said they didn't want the party to end.
