Happy 4th Birthday Harry! - Ship Ahoy!

I made this Pirate Ship Cake for my son Harry's 4th birthday recently. We had a Pirate Party theme and it was a huge hit.

The cake was easy and a lot of fun to make. The only hiccup we had was that we put the candles on the top of the pirate ship (instead of in the life savers on the side of the ship) and the ship's sails went up in flames! There was no major damage - the flames were doused, the cake was gobbled up and a right good 'ole time was had by all!

I want a pirate ship cake for my son's 4th birthday. I tried to find someone to make, but it was rather expensive so I will attempt on my own. Any ideas or instructions? I love this picture of Harry's cake - its so clean compared to others I've seen. Any help much appreciated!!!!

Nice cake! Very cleanly done, did you use fondant?

I am doing a pirate ship for my little one's 4th birthday too! I am going to be putting the candles sticking out the sides of the ship where the cannon balls are for effect.

I am also putting the pirate ship on one side of a round cake designed to look like water to make sure I have enough cake to go around.
