Indoor Birthday Party Games

Hi and welcome to our Indoor Birthday Party Games page.

If you're child's having a birthday party and the weather turns, don't worry, we have that sorted.

For those of you living in cooler (or wetter) climates, indoor party games may be the only option available, in which case a mix of boisterous and quieter party games is recommended.

There are team games that allow children to work together while others require more brain power.

Scroll down below to find a growing list of Indoor Birthday Party Games. When I say "growing", we're currently adding to it.....

Balloon Twisting Learn how to twist balloons! Why hire an outside entertainer when you can entertain the kids yourself?

Animal Sounds Collect magazine pictures of zoo animals (two of each) and paste on a card. Give one card to each child. The children make the sound of the animal on their card, then prowl round until they find an animal making the same noise.

Mime Time The children sit in a circle round one child in the centre who mimes an animal. The child who identifies it first mimes the next animal. Reward each player with a small prize.

Guess what smell Guessing games are always popular and make good games for childrens birthday parties. You will need a blindfold and a number of 'smelly' items. Try some parmesan cheese, washing up liquid, a rose, or coffee. Each player has one guess per item and they get one point if they are right. Whoever gets the most points is the winner!

Printable Party Games When your outside play is limited, try these great printable games. You can download, print - and play away!

No Paws Allowed Put a whole apple on a paper plate in front of each child on the ground. Each child has to kneel in front of their plate with their hands behind their backs and eat the apple without using their hands. If you don't mind the mess, the game can be played with chocolate mousse, jelly...

Guessing Game Put several different objects, e.g. a peeled hard boiled egg, stapler, whisk, bar of soap, cork, sandpaper, sponge, sheels into a box. The children guess what they are by feel. One of those party games guaranted to get plenty of squeals.

Squeak, Piggy, Squeak For this game, one person is blindfolded while the others sit around the room. Whoever is blindfolded walks around the room then sits down on someone's lap, saying "Squeak, piggy, squeak". Whoever they are sitting on starts squeaking and the blindfolded person must try to guess the identity of the squeaker. If they are right, the squeaker becomes the person to be blindfolded.

Surprise Sentences This game is more suited for children who can read and write. The object of this game is for each team to write a grammatical sentence without any planning. Divide the children into two teams. Each team lines up in front of a large sheet of paper. Place a word in the middle of each page, suited to the party theme if you want, or the first child can choose the first word. The first word is written in the middle of the page so that when the pen is passed to the second child they can then add a word either above or below to continue the sentence. The game continues, without talking, until each player has added a word. The winning team either has a complete sentence or the funniest sentence.

Monster Statues One of those classic party games. Children simply move around the room 'monster-fashion' to music, making suitable monster noises! When the music stops they must hold whatever position they are in for several seconds until the music starts again. Anyone who moves has to sit out. This is one of those party games that could be adapted to other themes. For example, at a jungle party, each child could pick an animal to imitate.

Pass The Orange Divide the children into two teams facing each other in a line. Each team sits on the ground with their hands behind their backs. The first child in each line is given an orange to cradle in their feet. They have to pass it to the next player without it touching the ground. If the orange falls it needs to begin from the start again.

Hat and Scarf In this Indoor Birthday Party game the children form two teams with each given a coat, hat scarf and gloves. The teams line up behind their leaders with the clothes being placed on a chair in front of each team. On the signal the first player has to put on the items, run around the team and return to the starting position. The 2nd player then does the same. The first team to finish with the clothes put back on the chair is the winner.

A great way to involve the kids in the birthday party is to have them help in the preparation of their own party food. You can prepare the ingredients beforehand and have them make their own special mini party pizzas. Another idea is to provide cream, chopped nuts, marshmallows..and so on, so they can decorate their own green jelly swamp.
