Kids Birthday Party Food
The best kids birthday party food is fun, easy to make, and easy to eat. Keep ideas simple and colourful. If you are having a party with a theme, try and make the party food to match. (See our Theme Parties page.
Most party food can be cooked or prepared in advance, and kept in the fridge or airtight containers. Cakes and biscuits can be iced and decorated the day before the party. Keep quantities relatively small as most children get too excited to eat large amounts. Bite-size 'nibblies' usually go down the best so they can try a bit of everything.
Try and have a combination of sweet as well as savoury items. Food cut in to interesting shapes will be most appealing.
As most food will be eaten with fingers, make sure you provide plenty of bright coloured napkins.
Here are some of my top tips to include with your kids birthday party recipes:
- Start shopping and cooking several days before the party
- Try and avoid too many items containing nuts
- Put nibblies within easy reach so the children can access the food throughout the party
- Mark each child's cup with their name
- Keep the birthday cake out of sight (and reach) until after the food and the Grand Entrance!
Make thirst quenching drinks from combined juice and soda water. This will cut down on the sugar as well as add some fizz!
Children love sandwiches, as we all know. For something different, use shaped cookie cutters to cut out shapes then cover with a spreading such as cream cheese or 100s and 1000s. Or place cheese slices and polony on the bread before cutting out the shapes.
