Olivia's Caterpillar Cake

Olivia's Caterpillar Cake

Olivia's Caterpillar Cake

My daughter wanted a Caterpillar cake for her 3rd birthday and I couldn't find a design anywhere, so I made up my own!
The "eaten leaf" cake board is made from MDF and my husband cut out the eaten part with a jigsaw and I covered it with shiny green paper.
The cake was cooked in big and small muffin tins. I placed the cakes on the board in the shape of a caterpillar and iced it in green icing. I then covered it in smarties and used musticks for legs and pipe cleaners for antennas.
My daughter absolutely loved it and so did all the kids and parents. I cut mine up to serve, but depending how many children were at the party, you could make the caterpillar long enough so every child could have a muffin cake each.

Since I first found this photo ages ago I always come back and look at it! It's lovely - In fact I am going to make one for my daughter's party this Friday as well as a flower/butterfly cake that she wants (just for my benefit!) All the kids at her party can have that and we can have the other one for home!!! Soon she will be too old and won't want it. She's 5 on Friday - Brilliant!!! x

I am using your idea, as well, for my youngest daughter's 1st birthday party. I am going to do the icing in pink and green (alternating) with one muffin per person/child attending. My oldest daughter (age 3) LOVES the idea.

THANK YOU FOR THE AWESOME IDEA AND PHOTO!

Great Caterpillar Cake!
by: Sarah

Wow - what a great cake! Thanks for posting this. I've been looking everywhere for an easy to make caterpillar cake. I tried this for my niece as you described but changed the color to pink and used black licorice for the legs. It went down a treat!
