Need a Pinata?

Pinatas are brightly coloured paper objects filled with sweets and sometimes small toys. They are usually made from paper-mache (or layers of paper held together with glue).

Traditionally they were human or animal shapes but nowadays they are made into almost every shape imaginable.

Pinatas are tied by rope to a tree (or anything above head height) and the object is to hit it with a stick, whilst blindfolded, until it breaks so all the sweets or toys inside fall onto the ground. Then all the children rush to collect the 'fallout'.

If your kids are old enough, get them to help you. Kids love participating in arts and crafts activities and they'll be thrilled to be able to contribute to something to do with their upcoming birthday party.

Now to make-your-own is all good and well if you have the time - and the patience for doing crafty activities. Some people just don't have the knack or, for that matter, the time.
