A Spiderman Cake!
Spiderman.... weaves a web wherever he can.... impress your kids and their friends with this very-easy-to-make Spiderman Cake... (scroll down for the video)
Ingredients:
2 x standard cake mixes (or double our Butter Cake recipe)
2 cups blue Butter Cream icing
2 cups plain red icing
licorice strips
black tubed icing gel
white fondant icing
Spiderman Template (click to download)
Large colored pins to pin template to cake
Bake a 9"x13" oblong cake. As per our video below, pin the template to the cake. Apply the blue background icing. Then carefully remove the template and pins. Apply the plain red icing. Using the eyes of the template, cut out fondant icing and place on the red icing. Then using the template as a guide, add the licorice strips and black tubed icing gel to draw the spiderwebs.
Tip 1: I recommend using plain icing for Spiderman's face as you will get a richer red colour when you add the colouring. If you use red colouring with butter cream icing the red will be more of a pastel red because of the fat in the butter.
Tip 2: Don't forget to place your cake in the freezer for at least a couple of hours (after it has cooled from the oven). This will make it less crumbly when you ice.
You can also take the alternative of baking a plain square or oblong shaped cake and placing Spiderman Cake Toppers
on top of your baked cake.
Or add to your Spiderman feast by making cupcakes and use these cute Spiderman baking cups.
