Thomas the Tank Engine

by D. Ricketts
(Victoria, Australia)

I baked 2 chocolate cakes in ring tins and cut and joined them to make a number 3. The blue "water" is blue jelly scattered with sea creature lollies. After the jelly was set, I cut and removed the section for the cake to fit in. I then iced the cake in green butter icing and decorated the outer sides with Cadbury flake for the cliff edges and the inside of the 3 with M&M's for the rocks. I used malt stick choc biscuits for the sleepers and long licorice for the tracks. The buffers are made of malt sticks (stuck together with melted choc) and M&M minis.

The trains are little toy ones but the carriages were made from Oreo stick and filled with various lolly "cargo". The trees are made from 2 mint leaves cut half way thru (lengthways), placed together and put on a toothpick.

My son loved this cake and I was pretty happy with how impressive it looked for not too much effort.
